Perm Cernter for Development of Design and product design e-zine Designet.ru launch international open design contest “Perm Furniture”.
Perm is one of the largest industrial and cultural hubs of Russia with population of 1 mln citizens, the center of Perm Krai (region). Both the city and the region are demanding for active modernization of social services and city infrastructure. Designers were called in with this contest to help.
Participation in the contest is free of charge, with no restiction for age, education, residence or number of submitted projects. All designers, architects and students are invited.
Themes
Perm Furniture design competition will run with three themes:
1. Multifunctional and transformable workplace for schoolchildren
2. Furniture for visitors and recreations for public spaces
3. Outdoor city furniture
Both single objects and colections can be submitted within each theme. Wood and wood-based materials are suggested to be basic, though any other materials are welcomed if necessary for the concept.
Prizes
Each of the three themes offeres thee prizes:
1st place – 60 000 rubles (equivalent to 1500 euro)
2nd place – 40 000 rubles (equivalent to 1000 euro)
3rd place – 20 000 rubles (equivalent to 500 euro)
Another 40 000 rubles (1000 euro) will be distributed by the jury among selected projects in parts no less than 10 000 rubles (250 euro) or given as prize to one single selected project featured in the short-list. A short list of best projects will be published. Authors of best projects will be offered contracts for design development of their projects.

- Roman Olyunin – chairman of association of furniture producers of Perm Krai (Russia)
Timeline
Deadline: 10.06.2011
Short-list will be published on 17.06.2011
Award ceremony will take place in Perm no later than 30.06.2011. Exact date to be announced soon.
Submitting your work
If the project is submitted by a group of participants, the group should choose a representative for project submitting, communication and prize claiming.
All projects are submitted to info@permdesign.com.
Attention! Attachments larger than 10 Mb will not be accepted.
Each project should be send with a separate e-mail.
Each e-mail should contain:
In the header:
- surname and name of participant
- name of submitted project
In the e-mail:
- surname and name of participant
- name of submitted project
- contacts (phone no. and e-mail)
- CV (max. 500 characters)
- attached project images (A3 420x297mm format, landscape, RGB, .jpg, 150 dpi)
- attached project description (max. 3000 characters, .txt/.rtf/.doc)
All attached files should be named as:
Name_Surname_Project_1.jpg,
Name_Surname_Project_2.jpg,
Name_Surname_Project_3.jpg etc. ( for images),
Name_Surname_Project.doc (for description).
Project images should feature the following:
- front, side and plan views with general measurments
- two or more perspective views
All kind of visualizations are acceptable.
Participants may add:
- sketches
- detailed drawings of parts and joints
- ergonomical schemes and user behaviour scenarios
- color and trim moodboards etc.
The official language of the competition is Russian. But foreign participants may submit their projects in English.
Copyright
Each participant submitting a project for the competition declares himself the author of the project. Any risks connected with claims of third parties are at the responcibility of the participant. In case of legal third-party claims for the authorship of the project the prize is withdrawn by the organizers.
Authors of the projects retain the rights for their projects. Perm Center for Design Development reserves the right to use the projects non-commercially. By taking part in the competitions, the participants agree that their works can be published by the organizers in printed materials, press, Internet, TV or shown at the exhibitions without any additional permission from the participants.
Perm Center for Design Development will sign an exclusive contract with the winners (1st places in each theme) determining the further development of the project. The same contracts might be signed with other participants.
